Days 5-6 (August 25-26, 2025): Girona > Viladecans > Barcelona - A day off the rails! Plus, the wrap-up.

When WestJet knocks off one of your five days of vacation due to a flight cancellation, your final vacation day creeps up on you quickly.

Ever have one of those days when everything seems to go wrong? Not necessarily big stuff, but so many little things that you just want to howl? Well, that was our day. Just to give a few quick examples…

1- Our 72-hour e-SIM cards expired at breakfast time, and we spent an hour dealing with hurdles, trying to get something to replace them. (You cannot drive in Europe without a GPS, and a GPS requires data, which requires an e-SIM.)

2- Our big thing for today was to visit a flamingo habitat. We drove through Barcelona traffic for 90 minutes that was enough to induce high blood pressure, only to find the place was closed, even though it was supposed to be open.

3- The bus information to get to central Barcelona for the flamenco show we had booked was bogus, turning a 45-minute ride into 90-minutes and resulted in us missing the first 15 minutes of the 60-minute show.

Add another dozen mini events to those above and you will understand why it was such a a rough day.

Oh well. We ended up walking a beautiful beach just outside Barcelona, thoroughly enjoyed the 45 minutes of the flamenco show we did get to see, walked around the center of Barcelona (brining back great memories of our trip to the city in February 2020, just a few weeks before the world shut down with COVID), and enjoyed a last dinner of great tapas. So I guess it is hard to complain too much about things going off the rails.

As I write this, we are on our nonstop packed WestJet flight home to Halifax, which was only 17 minutes late pushing back - much better than the 24-hour delay we had on the trip over.

Thanks for following along and, again, sorry that the blog didn’t work. I have to figure that all out when I get home.

- Patja (Beach) de les Filipines in Viladecans

- the new Four Points by Sheraton Hotel where we stayed - and the lunch I concocted upon checking! ;-)

- Barcelona’s chic building design really impresses

- scenes from the center of Barcelona

- our tapas dinner (pic is missing two of the six tapas!)

- the flamenco show. A great way to wrap up our visit.
